YugabyteDB Managed Augments Its Open Source Distributed SQL Database with New Managed CLI

In a recent update, Yugabyte has bolstered its managed, open-source distributed SQL database, YugabyteDB Managed, with enhanced features including a new Managed Command Line Interface (CLI), support for AWS PrivateLink, better observability, and accelerated scalability.

The Managed CLI is designed to help developers capitalize on the benefits of automation without the need to acquire new skills. By allowing the simple creation and management of clusters from either their Integrated Development Environment (IDE) or terminal, developers can utilize cutting-edge tools to optimize database performance and drive their business forward, according to Karthik Ranganathan, CTO and co-founder of Yugabyte.

Furthermore, developers will no longer require REST API or Terraform skills to create and manage clusters hosted in YugabyteDB Managed, thanks to the new Managed CLI. The CLI brings automation to repetitive tasks and boasts an auto-completion feature that simplifies the discovery of new features for developers, database administrators, and DevOps engineers alike.

Yugabyte's new CLI is compatible with multiple platforms such as Mac, Windows, and Linux. The Windows version can be downloaded from GitHub.

Besides the CLI enhancements, YugabyteDB Managed has been upgraded with over 125 new SQL and storage layer metrics, achieving improved observability. These metrics will deliver deeper insights into database performance, enabling the quick identification and resolution of any performance issues that may arise.

New data visualization options have also been added to the cloud-based user interface for observability within YugabyteDB Managed. These include customizable dashboard metric reordering and synchronized tooltips in charts for easier troubleshooting.

Moreover, Yugabyte has introduced support for AWS PrivateLink, a service that facilitates private connectivity between virtual private clouds, supported AWS services, and on-premises networks. This feature is currently in private preview and can be accessed for dedicated clusters created in YugabyteDB Managed on AWS. Serving as an alternative to VPC peering, the implementation of AWS PrivateLink enables more secure access to enterprise databases over a private network.
