Budibase Secures $7M Round for Its Open-Source Low-Code Web App Builder
Belfast-based startup Budibase has raised $7 million in funding for its open-source low-code web app builder. Positioned as a cost-saving and innovation catalyst, the platform allows users to develop internal tools and business apps quickly. With built-in automations and database compatibility, Budibase aims to stand out in a competitive no-code/low-code landscape.

Low-code and no-code development platforms have been taking the industry by storm, enabling organizations to bridge talent gaps and accelerate application building by handling technical complexities. Budibase, a Northern Irish startup, recently announced a $7 million funding round to develop its open-source web app builder.
Founded in 2019, Budibase provides users with the ability to connect to external data sources, such as Postgres, MySQL, Oracle, Google Sheets, or Airtable, and build internal tools or business apps within minutes. In addition, Budibase has its own built-in database based on CouchDB for users who want to build apps from scratch.
Similar to other open-source low-code development platforms like Appsmith and Joget, Budibase empowers enterprises with flexibility and extensibility while giving them the option to host everything themselves. This is crucial for organizations with sensitive data that they want to protect from third-party infrastructure.
Besides offering a free self-hosted version, Budibase also provides premium and enterprise plans featuring add-on services, such as SLAs, unlimited automation logs, and fully managed hosted solutions.
One of Budibase's key differentiators is its built-in automations similar to Zapier, which are powered by webhooks and ready-to-use actions. Technical users can also customize these automations by adding their own scripts. Use cases for automations range from automatically approving or denying employee leave requests to notifying sales teams of new inbound leads.
In a competitive no-code/low-code landscape, which includes well-funded players like Webflow, Softr, Appsmith, Retool, and Thunkable, Budibase is striving to stand out through its usability and features like built-in automations. The platform's client roster includes notable companies such as Google, Netflix, Tesla, and Disney.
With platforms like Budibase, AppMaster, and many others, the no-code/low-code movement continues to accelerate, giving businesses the ability to innovate and create cost-effective applications.
