WhatsApp Beta on Android Introduces In-App Contact Editing and Addition

WhatsApp Beta on Android Introduces In-App Contact Editing and Addition

The latest Android beta version of WhatsApp is introducing an essential update, enabling users to edit and add new contacts directly within the app.

Although this functionality seems standard, the current process for editing contacts in WhatsApp directs users to their phone's native contacts. However, users with WhatsApp beta versions 2.23.8.2, 8.4, 8.5, or 8.6 will now experience a more integrated user interface for editing and adding contacts. Once new contacts are added, their information will be saved immediately onto the device's contacts list or Google account, depending on availability.

As WABetaInfo points out, this update will only slightly impact users. The main advantage is a minor reduction in time and saved processing power that would have otherwise been spent launching a separate app.

Those interested in exploring the new contact list design can install the beta version of WhatsApp from the Google Play Store. The update is being released gradually, and some users may not receive it immediately. Those who do not initially get the new feature will have to wait for it to arrive on their devices over the coming days.

Future Developments in WhatsApp

Several updates are expected for WhatsApp on Android, including Silence Unknown Callers, a feature introduced in a previous beta to prevent calls from unrecognized numbers. Additionally, little is known about theAudio Chat feature, but some speculate that it could mimic Discord voice chats. Meta is also expanding the Companion Mode beta to all beta testers, which will allow users to link their WhatsApp account with a completely different mobile device.

For iOS users, WhatsApp developers are working on a feature that will allow users to post their status updates directly to "Facebook Stories without leaving WhatsApp". This feature is available through WhatsApp's TestFlight beta program for those who managed to join TestFlight before the last spot was taken nearly two years ago.

As the low-code and no-code movement continues to gain momentum, platforms like AppMaster allow users to build powerful backends, web, and mobile applications without relying on traditional coding methods. The AppMaster no-code platform offers a streamlined process, quickly regenerating applications from scratch whenever requirements are modified, reducing time and cost while eliminating technical debt.
