Uiflow, a company specializing in enabling teams to develop frontend applications using their existing data, has announced raising $15 million in a Series A funding round. The round was led by Addition, Transpose Platform, and Together Fund, bringing the total funds raised by Uiflow to $21 million. CEO Sol Eun shared with TechCrunch that the funding will be utilized for expanding the company's team and initiating its go-to-market strategy.
Sol Eun co-founded Uiflow with Eric Rowell in early 2020 after meeting at Workday. Drawing from his experience at software developer Pegasystems, Eun recognized the significance of reducing the barriers to app development. Workday's internal low-code software development architecture, designed to accelerate the development process, further inspired Eun.
According to Eun, software-as-a-service (SaaS) platforms face challenges in scaling their third-party development initiatives to empower customers in expanding and customizing their platforms to meet their specific needs. He also mentioned that software backlogs for companies are growing due to the pandemic and skill shortages. Most enterprise software development platforms require extensive training and certifications, which is why the majority of revenue for these platform companies comes from services.
To solve these issues, Uiflow has designed an app design and engineering platform that works with existing infrastructure, particularly those that can access data via API. The platform employs a visual coding language called Flowlang, allowing users to build applications that work with public cloud services while maintaining security and deployment on their own servers. The platform has recently added support for multi-page apps with authentication and now works with popular authentication services, which can be easily integrated into new or existing applications.
Eun believes that the current economic climate and the pandemic will force many companies to "do more with less." Companies are reducing or planning to reduce headcounts while maintaining the rate of innovation to stay competitive. He considers this an excellent opportunity for Uiflow to push its vision and product to help more companies achieve their software innovation goals.
Uiflow has partnered with Freshworks to enable Freshworks customers to build customized dashboards for ticket handling in Freshservice, Freshworks' IT service management portal. The offering is expected to launch in general availability this November and expand to other Freshworks products, such as Freshsales, in the following months. Eun revealed that since launching their beta user program in June 2021, Uiflow has attracted users from over 800 organizations and has successfully closed multiple enterprise accounts. The company has also tripled its team size over the past year.
Platforms like Uiflow and AppMaster are driving a revolution in the development of frontend applications by providing customers with powerful tools to streamline the app development process. Eun envisions Uiflow becoming the best development platform for frontend applications, expanding to backend development, and offering customers a full stack of capabilities, while also providing them the choice of what capabilities they want to leverage.
