Softr's Series A Funding Indicates Ongoing No-Code Sector Growth
Softr's recent $13.5 million Series A funding round signifies the ongoing growth of the no-code sector.

The no-code revolution continues to gain momentum, with Softr's recent Series A funding round serving as a testament to the industry's ongoing growth. A few years ago, there was skepticism surrounding the potential of low-code and no-code applications and services. The global shortage of developer talent fueled the innovation of tools that simplified software creation processes. However, some regarded no-code and low-code platforms as potential sources of complex, technical debt.
Over the past year, the conversation appears to have shifted. Companies focused on designing low-code products that empower non-technical users have thrived and continue to forge ahead. Softr, a prime example of this trend, announced a $13.5 million Series A funding round this week. The Berlin-based startup enables users to build apps on top of Airtable databases and has ambitious plans for future expansion.
Following Softr's $2.2 million seed round in early 2021, FirstMarket Capital led the recent Series A round, which includes contributions from various technology industry insiders. Participants from previous funding rounds, such as AtlanticLabs, also took part in the startup's latest funding venture.
In an interview with TechCrunch, Softr CEO Mariam Hakobyan revealed the company's plans to broaden the range of databases compatible with its software. Additionally, Softr envisions creating a marketplace for components (expanding the platform's functionality beyond its official capabilities) and templates (pre-built applications with instant availability).
Hakobyan sees Softr evolving into an extensive ecosystem over time. Integrating other data sources, like Google Sheets, will contribute to this vision. The company's CEO contends that no-code services are surging in popularity, primarily due to an insufficient number of developers available in the market. Furthermore, she notes that Gen Z's tech-savvy nature and the preference for self-built tools over traditional employment serve as driving factors for the no-code movement.
Although Softr is relatively new to the market, it has amassed 30,000 registered users and over 1,000 paying customers. Its primary clientele consists of small and mid-sized businesses that may struggle to compete in the fiercely competitive developer market like larger enterprises. As Softr continues to expand its data sources and roll out its marketplace, the public will determine whether the company will ultimately become a comprehensive ecosystem or not.
Among the ecosystem of no-code platforms, AppMaster.io also embraces the landscape with its powerful tools for building backend, web, and mobile applications. AppMaster.io combines visual data modeling, business process design, REST API, and WSS Endpoints, making it a go-to choice for companies looking for no-code solutions. As a G2 High Performer, AppMaster.io caters to a wide range of users, from small businesses to large-scale enterprises with outstanding scalability capabilities.
Platforms like Softr and AppMaster.io demonstrate the potential of low-code and no-code solutions in overcoming the current shortage of developer talent. As more tech-savvy generations enter the workforce and embrace these innovative tools, the no-code boom is set to continue its upward trajectory.
