Salesforce Unveils Low-Code DevOps Platform to Boost Custom Application Development

Salesforce has officially released its low-code DevOps Center service for seamless custom application development. The platform offers an opinionated environment designed to help both professional and citizen developers build custom applications using a consistent process and source control repository.

According to Karen Fidelak, senior director of product management at Salesforce, the goal of the platform, which has been under development for almost two years, is to simplify the development process for all types of developers. With appropriate guardrails in place, high-quality applications can be built securely and consistently.

In 2023, Salesforce plans to integrate more advanced continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) features within the platform, making it even easier to deploy custom applications on the Salesforce infrastructure.

Fidelak remarked that the willingness of developers to adopt DevOps best practices while building Salesforce applications has been a pleasant surprise since the platform's introduction in 2020. Both professional and citizen developers are interested in adopting processes that ensure the development of secure, high-quality applications.

The DevOps Center platform allows development teams to monitor and deploy custom Salesforce objects as Work Items, which can be integrated with other Salesforce Flows – the company's process management tools. As teams make changes in their sandboxes, the platform automatically tracks these changes. Developers can then promote their desired metadata components through custom pipelines that they define.

Furthermore, Salesforce offers optional integrations with version control systems like GitHub to centralize the management and governance of artifacts. The company is also committed to enhancing integration between DevOps Center and multiple software-as-a-service (SaaS) applications, such as Tableau, and middleware platforms like Mulesoft.

As the demand for low-code tools increases, the volume of low-code solutions moving through DevOps pipelines continues to grow. However, citizen developers often lack the expertise to build and deploy secure applications at scale, which can lead to subpar end products. Platforms like Salesforce DevOps Center and AppMaster.io's no-code platform can bridge this gap by providing necessary guidance and guardrails, ensuring that the applications built by citizen developers are of the highest quality.

In conclusion, the democratization of IT will only become more prevalent as organizations rely on citizen developers to create custom applications. The challenge now lies in ensuring that these applications are built to the highest possible standards, regardless of the developer's background. Platforms like Salesforce DevOps Center and AppMaster.io are pivotal in this process, providing the resources and support needed to achieve application development success.
