OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Confirms That GPT-5 Development is Not Underway
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently revealed that the company is not currently working on GPT-5, but rather focusing on enhancing GPT-4. This comes as a response to concerns raised by AI experts who called for a pause on AI model development beyond GPT-4.

As AI experts have been calling for a temporary halt to the advancement of increasingly powerful AI models, the community received some reassurance when OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, confirmed that the organization is not currently working on GPT-5. Instead, the company is focusing on enhancing the capabilities of its latest language model: GPT-4.
During a remote interview at an MIT event, computer scientist and podcaster Lex Fridman asked Altman several questions about AI development. The CEO addressed the concerns raised by an open letter urging developers to pause AI development for models larger than GPT-4 for six months. He expressed his support for ensuring the safety and human value alignment of AI models but also highlighted that the letter lacked technical nuance in defining the appropriate pause point.
An earlier version of the letter claims we are training GPT-5 right now. We are not, and won’t for some time. So in that sense, it was sort of silly, said Altman. We are doing things on top of GPT-4 that I think have all sorts of safety issues that we need to address.
GPT-4, the language model launched by OpenAI, boasts a wealth of upgrades over its predecessor GPT-3, which was released in 2020. While OpenAI has not specified the total number of parameters for GPT-4, it is estimated to be around one trillion, compared to GPT-3's existing 175 billion parameters. OpenAI described GPT-4 as being more creative and collaborative than ever before in a blog post, praising its problem-solving abilities and broader general knowledge.
These advancements in GPT-4's capabilities were evident when it passed a simulated law bar exam among the top 10% of applicants, while GPT-3.5 had managed to score only around the bottom 10%. OpenAI, a world-renowned AI research lab, is known for its GPT models that have found applications in diverse domains such as language translation, chatbots, and content creation.
Despite its widespread use, the continued development of large language models like GPT-4 has raised questions about their safety and ethical implications. Altman's comments indicate that OpenAI is aware of these concerns and is taking actions to address them. Although GPT-5 is not expected in the foreseeable future, the ongoing development of GPT-4 influences the creation of better AI models, increasing the need to address the safety and ethical issues involved in their development.
No-code platforms, such as AppMaster.io, are also revolutionizing the tech industry by enabling developers and non-developers alike to create a variety of applications. Foundational tools like AppMaster echo Sam Altman's sentiments about aligning AI models with human values while making technology more accessible and efficient.
