The list includes general skills such as overall hard skills for any market and industry-specific expertise, like technology. LinkedIn also provides online training courses for the skills listed. The top 10 overall hard skills are led by IT, occupying most of the top spots, with software development holding the first position. Companies rely on software development to build products essential in our personal and professional lives.
Other hard skills featured in the top 10 include:

These abilities help professionals succeed in various roles including marketer, financial analyst, project manager, and IT specialist.
LinkedIn analyzed the most sought-after expertise using six months of data from April to October 2022, including information from employers, hirers, and job posters on their platform. Technical understanding and strategic thinking are increasingly important in managing workplace projects, as these projects are becoming more complex.
Aneesh Raman, vice president of LinkedIn's Opportunity Project, underlines the importance of tech skills in the current workforce. He states, "Every company right now is either a tech company or a tech-enabled company, even if they don’t fully realize it. That means tech skills are becoming some of the most transferable skills across sectors, so it’s never been more important to keep your tech skills sharp."
In LinkedIn's list of most coveted skills, cloud computing skills appeared in multiple markets. The top skills for IT work are management, SQL, Microsoft Office, project management, analytical skills, communication, customer service, leadership, cloud computing, and Python.
The increasing popularity of hybrid and remote work environments has created more challenges for IT departments, heightening the importance of communication and project management skills.
