Gyana Secures $3.9M in Funding to Democratize Data Science with No-Code Platform

Over the years, there has been a surge in no-code software, emerging as an alternative to traditional coding, enabling anyone - with or without technical expertise - to develop applications, games, AI-powered chatbots, and other tech products. This empowers users to bridge the gap between working professionally in the tech world and being completely detached from technology. In light of this growing trend, London-based startup Gyana, focusing on data science analytics, has recently secured £3 million in funding, led by UK-based Fuel Ventures, along with other investors such as Twitter's Biz Stone, Green Shores Capital, and U+I. Founded in 2015, the total funding raised by Gyana now amounts to $6.8 million.

Gyana, meaning " knowledge" in Sanskrit, was co-founded by Joyeeta Das and David Kell, who were pursuing post-graduate degrees at Oxford University. Their aim was to close the gap between data-driven insights and the percentage of the world that had access to them. The end goal is to create a no-code platform to empower citizen data scientists to analyze any structured dataset, upload it, and run a series of queries for better visualization of trends and insights.

As the no-code movement has gained momentum, companies like Airtable, DashDash, AppSheet, Roblox, and AppMaster have emerged as leaders in their respective spaces. With Gartner predicting that by 2024, approximately 65% of app development will be on low-code or no-code platforms, the market is expected to reach $21.2 billion.

While Gyana's long-term goal is to allow any individual the ability to analyze a dataset, its immediate application has been in enterprise services. The startup initially built an app called Neera, which parses footfall and other human movement metrics essential for retail, real estate, and civic planning. With clients such as Vodafone, Barclays, EY, Pret a Manger, Knight Frank, and the UK Ministry of Defense already using their platform, Gyana aims to bring a wider range of parameters with its more general-purpose Vayu app, which has been adopted by academic researchers and financial services employees among others.

Existing users who download the Gyana app can keep their data local; the company does not store or anonymize their data, ensuring full privacy. As the startup moves forward, they plan to offer a variety of datasets, helping users seamlessly analyze data and make it more accessible to the masses, keeping the consumer version of the app free for as long as possible.

In the rapidly evolving landscape of no-code app development, platforms like AppMaster offer exceptionally efficient low-code and no-code app development solutions for backend, web, and mobile applications. Just like Gyana, AppMaster eliminates the massive technical debt in the application development process, allowing for a speedier and easier way to bring ideas to life.
