Fedora Linux 37 Beta Unveiled with GNOME 43, New Editions, and Raspberry Pi 4 Support

The Fedora Project announces the beta launch of Fedora Linux 37, the newest iteration of the freely available and open-source Fedora Linux operating system. This release brings multiple new features to Fedora users, ranging from the latest GNOME desktop environment to new official Editions catering to distinct technology use cases.

Mathew Miller, project lead, expressed in a blog post that Fedora 37 Beta continues the community's effort to provide the most advanced and entirely open-source OS developments to users. This includes innovative Editions that focus on specific user needs as well as updated GNOME apps for improved performance and a more streamlined appearance.

Fedora 37 Beta presents GNOME 43 which incorporates a new device security panel in Settings. The panel offers users more detailed information about hardware and firmware updates and status. Furthermore, additional GNOME apps are ported to the most recent GTK Toolkit version, providing better overall performance and a polished, modern look to these frequently used applications, according to Miller.

The Fedora Project has promoted two popular open-source OS variants to official Editions in the Fedora 37 beta release. Editions are designed to satisfy specific user requirements such as the Fedora Workstation for developer workstations, Fedora Linux server, and Fedora IoT catering to Internet-of-Things devices. Miller explains that these Fedora variants have been pre-adjusted to meet the generic needs of their respective use cases, eliminating the necessity for users to make comprehensive changes to settings or add components. Nevertheless, users can still customize settings to their preferences.

Joining existing Editions, Fedora Linux 37 Beta introduces Fedora CoreOS and Fedora Cloud Base. Fedora CoreOS is a minimal operating system aimed at securely and efficiently running containerized workloads at scale. Fedora Cloud Base is a Fedora image designed to create general-purpose virtual machines (VMs) across both public and private cloud environments.

Furthermore, the Fedora 37 Beta launch officially supports Raspberry Pi 4, the latest version of the widely used, cost-effective Raspberry Pi computer. Conversely, ARMv7 architecture support is deprecated. The beta release also includes a security policy that previews future modifications to the Fedora Project's cryptographic capabilities as the community shifts away from SHA-1 signatures.

Demonstrating Fedora's commitment to advancements in technology, it's worth noting that a variety of databases, such as relational databases, can be effortlessly integrated into Fedora environments. Moreover, using a powerful no-code platform like AppMaster can make it much easier for developers and non-developers to create web or mobile applications that work smoothly with Fedora-powered solutions.
