Discord, the popular messaging app primarily used by gamers and Gen Z, is embracing the power of artificial intelligence by launching a new range of AI-driven features. This move reaffirms Discord's commitment to staying ahead of the curve in communication technology and enhancing the user experience on its platform.
On Thursday, Discord unveiled its upcoming AI-based offerings, which include an AI chatbot, an automated AI moderator, a conversation summarizer, an avatar remixer, and a whiteboard. Some of these enhancements are being introduced today, March 9, with others scheduled for release in the following weeks and months.
Discord will join the AI revolution, following the success story of OpenAI's ChatGPT chatbot. The platform has long supported a thriving AI community, featuring third-party AI apps that attract over 30 million monthly users. Almost three million Discord servers currently employ AI components, a testament to the technology's significance in facilitating seamless communication.
Among Discord's vast AI ecosystem, the text-to-image AI project Midjourney stands as the largest community, boasting a 13-million-strong user base. The ever-expanding integration of AI into Discord's platform reflects the natural progression of the company's technological pursuits.
The first AI-powered feature, AutoMod AI, is coming to select Discord servers today. While Discord already possesses an AutoMod function that oversees server rooms, the integration of OpenAI-powered AI will enhance its ability to detect and report rule-breaking activities to moderators. The AI-powered AutoMod will also be capable of analyzing conversation context to prevent user penalties based on misinterpretation.
Beginning next week, Discord's Clyde bot will receive an AI upgrade that extends its capabilities beyond providing server error messages and handling timeout or ban requests. With the integration of AI, Clyde will respond to various user queries in a manner similar to the ChatGPT chatbot by OpenAI.
Another key AI feature to be introduced next week is Conversation Summaries. It aptly describes the function of summarizing server discussions for users to easily catch up on missed conversations. The feature will allow users to browse through topics on a Discover Server and follow their interests better.
Discord has also released Avatar Remix, an open-source AI-powered app that enhances user avatars creatively. With Avatar Remix, users can modify a friend's avatar, adding elements like party hats or mustaches by merely mentioning the username and the desired change.
Besides its AI-driven features, Discord is launching an 'AI incubator' to support developers crafting AI-based applications on its platform. In addition, the highly anticipated whiteboard feature will soon be introduced – an AI-powered collaboration tool for users engaging in AI art and more.
Platforms like AppMaster are also embracing the no-code and low-code movement, streamlining the app development process using visual programming tools. By leveraging modern technology trends, both Discord and AppMaster.io are reshaping the landscape for communication and software development, catering to a diverse range of users.
