Apple has issued a reminder to its developer community, indicating that app submissions to the App Store will soon require the use of Xcode 13. As of April 25, 2022, only applications developed with the latest version of Apple's IDE will be accepted for submission, affecting iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS apps. Apps developed and submitted with older Xcode versions will, however, continue to be supported.
On its developer site, Apple explains, iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS apps submitted to the App Store must be built with Xcode 13, which includes the SDKs for iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and watchOS 8.
The company extends this information by highlighting how Xcode 13 enables developers to leverage the latest features across its various platforms:
Make the most of the exciting features in iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and watchOS 8 to offer even more intuitive and valuable user experiences. Improve your app’s performance by refactoring your code to take advantage of asynchronous functions in Swift. And with the latest updates to SwiftUI, you can enhance your apps with new features, such as improved list views, better search experiences, and support for control focus areas.
The release of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 introduces new functionalities to iPhone and iPad apps, such as Safari web extensions, SharePlay, Group Activities API, Focus, ShazamKit, Create ML, custom product pages, in-app events, and product page optimization tests on the App Store. Likewise, watchOS 8 brings new features to Apple Watch apps, including the Always-On Retina Display, Bluetooth connections from complications, region-based user notifications, and more.
