AI Think Tank Files a Complaint Against OpenAI's GPT-4, Urges FTC Investigation

The Center for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Policy (CAIDP) recently filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), asking the agency to investigate OpenAI's GPT-4 model and prevent its further commercial deployment. The AI think tank argues that OpenAI has engaged in deceptive and unfair practices, violating section five of the FTC Act, thereby posing a risk to public safety and privacy.

CAIDP argues that OpenAI released GPT-4 to the public without an independent risk assessment, and calls for the FTC to investigate OpenAI and other powerful AI system operators. The complaint seeks to halt further commercial releases of GPT-4 and establish necessary protections for consumers, businesses, and the commercial marketplace.

Merve Hickok, Chair and Research Director of CAIDP, highlighted the urgency of this matter, stating that without proper safeguards to limit bias and deception, the risks AI technology poses to businesses, consumers, and public safety are significant.
